The Skateboarding Bulldog Phenomena
Thursday, February 24th, 2011
Most people have seen a skateboarding bulldog or two on YouTube, and this hilarious sight is not showing any signs of slowing down. The juxtaposition of a lazy English Bulldog doing any kind of activity, such as skateboarding, creates a humorous situation that anyone can enjoy. Almost everyone thinks of a dog laying on the couch when they think of a bulldog, which is why a skateboarding bulldog is so surprising. Skateboarding for a bulldog is pretty easy because of their low center of gravity, and watching one skate down the street never seems to get old. I’m sure plenty of bulldog owners are now trying to get their dog on a skateboard with their tongues flailing around in the wind.
Bulldogs are usually pretty hard to train, but when it comes to skateboarding, they tend to make an exception. Instead of being stubborn and insisting on not following their trainer’s orders, bulldogs tend to accept the notion of getting on four wheels and skating around the block. This is because anyone can enjoy the fun times involved with skateboarding, even dogs. There have been other animals that have come around to try and steal the bulldog’s skateboarding shine, but they are usually no match for an animal as heavy and wide as a bulldog.
Sometimes their demeanor can seem a little aggressive, but bulldogs are actually very loving and caring animals. The only reason they ever seem a little mean spirited is because they are always trying to protect their owner. They would never hurt anyone unless they thought they posed some kind of threat to their master. After all, you can’t be that angry and mean if you’re skating around with your tongue hanging out of your mouth. This act has probably changed anyone’s mind who thought bulldogs are not friendly to be around.

English Bulldogs: The Right Dog for You?
Friday, July 3rd, 2009
English Bulldog puppies are undeniably adorable with their broad, sweet faces and roly-poly bodies, but will these stocky dogs grow into the right dog for your family? Take some time to think about their dispositions, care requirements and physical standards before buying an English Bulldog puppy. They can be perfect companions for some people, but they do require some extra care that means you shouldn’t buy one on impulse.
The personality of an English Bulldog is lovable and sweet. Although originally bred to be guard animals or “bait” animals for the cruel sport of bull baiting, today’s English Bulldogs have been bred for a sweet disposition. They tend to be loving, affectionate and stoic animals. You will seldom hear English Bulldogs whine or even bark unless there is an excellent reason. These dogs may look tough, but they are happiest when simply lounging around, preferably near a family member. They are very gentle and easy-going with young children and love to be fussed over.
If you are looking for a dog that is fine with lots of couch time and an occasional short walk, the English Bulldog will be a good fit. On the flip side, if you hope to take your dog jogging with you in the mornings or going for long, ambling walks, there are other dog breeds that would suit you better. Because of their short snouts and flat faces, English Bulldogs easily get winded when exercising and may have trouble breathing. They also overheat very easily, so you don’t want to take them out to play during the heat of the day.
English Bulldogs don’t tolerate heat well. They are NOT outdoor dogs. They need to be inside where the temperature can be regulated and they are close to their family. Since English Bulldogs are so quiet and unassuming, you will need to carefully monitor their food and water. It’s especially important to make sure they have enough water, since they aren’t likely to let you know when the bowl is empty. If a Bulldog is overheated, too much panting can lead to a swollen throat and a severe emergency. Cool your English Bulldog down with cool, damp towels if air conditioning or shade aren’t available.
Many English Bulldogs also develop gastrointestinal problems such as torsion and excessive gas if they aren’t fed properly. Cheap, bulk dog food is the enemy of the English Bulldog. You should be willing to pay extra for easy to digest dog food formulas such as lamb and rice or foods you prepare at home that include a balance of nutrients. Avoid beef and sugary foods at all times.
The eyes and wrinkles of your English Bulldog puppy will need to be cleaned regularly, preferably at least once a week, since your dog can’t clean these areas himself. English Bulldogs also need regular baths with a gentle dog shampoo; check with your veterinarian for a brand that will be easy on his sensitive skin.
If a low-key, loving dog who seldom barks and is excellent with children sounds perfect for you, an English Bulldog may be the right choice……IF you don’t mind a pet who needs frequent baths, lots of monitoring in warm weather, and special care and cleaning to prevent skin problems such as fungal infections. So the next time you see English Bulldog puppies for sale, weigh the concerns against the many rewards of English Bulldog ownership. You should come to the right decision for your family in no time.
