Possible Health Problems for Your Yorkshire Terrier Puppy

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Most of the health problems you are going to have with a Yorkie are rather small and simple, but they still need to be looked at if your want your Yorkshire Terrier to live a long and healthy life. An example of one of the most prevalent problems with Yorkshire Terriers is tooth decay. (more…)

The Lifestyle of a Yorkshire Terrier

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

A Yorkshire Terrier is more comfortable indoors where they can play around and lounge in a controlled climate. They are small and light as a feather, so they aren’t looking to go run around outside and bulk up. They are actually rather fragile dogs, so they are cautious of getting into any danger because they know they aren’t the burliest dogs around. If you are scared of having dog hair all over the house after you pick up your Yorkie, you don’t need to be worried at all. (more…)

Some Puppies Always Want to Play

The Yorkshire Terrier is a breed of high intelligence and high energy.  A Yorkie puppy will be ready to run around and play for many hours of the day, and they never seem to want to stop showing off their playful personality.  Yorkies are generally a very cute breed of dog and they often pull in their future owners by displaying their unique personality at all times.

Which Dogs Stay Small When they Get Older?

Friday, February 25th, 2011

Everyone loves a little puppy when they first get them, but some people end up regretting their decision on getting a dog once they grow up to be huge monsters.  For this reason and many others, certain people decide to pick a breed of dog that will not grow up to be too large.  People like puppies for a reason: they are small and easy to pick up and cuddle with.  Why should you get a puppy that is going to grow to be much larger when the only reason you like them so much is their miniature size?

The pug is one of the favorite breeds overall in the dog community, not just when it comes to small dogs.  If you are a fan of bulldogs but find them to be too large or aggressive, a pug might be the perfect choice for you.  Pugs are well-known for their squished faces and happy go lucky lifestyle.  These dogs are probably more like cats because they enjoy lounging around on the couch all day and despise exercise.  If you want a small dog that won’t give you much hassle, the pug is the right choice for you.

If you are looking for a dog that doesn’t shed, the miniature poodle might be right up your ally.  The hair on this breed of dog is quite unique.  It’s short and puffy, almost resembling and afro.  If you’d like a dog with longer, more luxurious hair that doesn’t shed, you may want to go with a Yorkshire Terrier.  These dogs will shed a little bit when you brush them, but you won’t be clogging up the vacuum with dog hair every time you clean the house.  Small dogs can suite and house or living condition because of their size, so pick one out today if you want to be safe with your dog selection.

Having a Specific Breed Can Mean More Than You Think

Monday, March 8th, 2010

We’ve all seen the funny pictures of dog and owner looking alike.  But have you ever wondered if having your dog has a hidden meaning or says more about your character and personality than you realize?  We have some insight into what kind of people own certain breeds!  There is no scientific proof of these findings…but it’s fun nonetheless!

French Bulldog

French Bulldog owners tend to be fun and rather silly, always being the clown and life of the party.  Although they do have a serious side, they would much rather laugh and joke around to be the center of attention.  They are loving with a great sense of humor but can get jealous when the attention is not on them.  They live life to the fullest and enjoy every minute of it.

English Bulldog

Much like the French Bulldog, English Bulldog owners love life, laugh at the smallest things and are silly just for the fun of it.  Though they come with a bit of a stubborn side, it pays off to their advantage as they never give up and are very determined.  They are loyal and committed to their family while being romantic and loving.  English Bulldog owners love to be active but would never pass up a good nap or a relaxing day on the couch.

Yorkshire Terriers

Yorkshire Terrier owners are the solid, organized dog owners.  They are very picky about how they do things and when they do them but are sure to always get things done correctly.  They are a very independent group and are always willing to enter into a good debate with others.  Yorkie owners keep a very clean house and dress to kill at all times.  Bad hair days, although rare, are sure to ruin the day.

Beagles

Beagle owners are the smiles of the dog owners world.  They are always happy, love to meet new people and talk to whoever will listen.  They love to have a good time and bring smiles, laughter and joy to everyone around them.  Although they love to be active in sports and outdoors, they also love to relax and enjoy couch time.

Puggles

Sharing some of the Beagle owner traits, Puggle owners have a zest for life that is hard to match.  They are usually all smiles and love to laugh with their family and friends.  They are adventurous and never turn down a chance to try something new.  They also have a great sense of humor and will do anything to make their loved ones laugh.

Yorkshire Terriers Puppies Are Adaptable and Loving

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

You’ve no doubt seen many Yorkshire Terrier puppies recently.  They are quickly becoming one of the favorite dog breeds for owners who want a small, affectionate pet.  But before you answer that ad that says, “Yorkshire Terrier puppies for sale,” pause and think about what you’re looking for in a pet as well as what you have to offer a Yorkie.

These energetic little dogs can easily adjust to life in an apartment or small house; they don’t need a lot of room because of their diminutive size.  Yorkies do, however, need exercise to be happy.  You’ll need to take your Yorkshire Terrier for a nice walk every day, and two walks if you can squeeze them into your schedule.  This will help tone down any tendency toward being hyper.

Yorkshire Terriers are sweet, loving and loyal, making the excellent family pets.  Although they started out as working dogs a century ago, in recent years they have been bred to be companion dogs.  They will happily ride in a pet bag or be carried in your arms wherever you go.  They love children and will gladly play with older children, but they aren’t the best pets if you have infants or toddlers in the house.  Yorkies are tiny and have delicate bone structure, so it’s easy for a young child to unintentionally hurt a Yorkie puppy by playing too roughly.  If you have toddlers in the house, buying a Yorkshire Terrier puppy should be put on hold until your children are old enough to treat the dog gently at all times.

Part of the appeal of a Yorkie is its soft, silky coat, which is extremely fine and grows long enough to sweep the floor, giving the dog the appearance of floating when he runs across the floor.  If you keep your Yorkie’s coat long, you will need to spend some time brushing him every day to keep tangles and snarls under control.  Most pet owners choose to have their Yorkshire Terrier groomed regularly to keep the coat shorter. You will still have to brush the shorter coat once a week since it is prone to tangling.  On the other hand, Yorkies hardly shed at all.  If you’re looking for a puppy that doesn’t shed, a Yorkie is a good choice so long as you don’t mind weekly brushing and grooming.

Because the Yorkshire Terrier is so small, some health problems have developed in the breed, but these are relatively minor and can be kept at bay with proper care.  Brushing your Yorkie puppy’s teeth at least once a week is a must to deter tooth decay, which can cause some of these dogs to lose their teeth too early.

Sensitive stomachs are also common, but sticking with a top quality dog food and giving only high quality dog treats will keep your Yorkie puppy healthy and happy.  Problems start when you forget that your Yorkshire is a dog and try feeding him human food as treats.  This can lead to diarrhea and vomiting, which can cause dehydration quickly in dogs this size.

If you have the time to properly brush and groom your dog and are handy with a doggy toothbrush, you may ready to buy a Yorkie puppy.  Just make sure that your children are old enough to treat this tiny little sweetheart with a gentle touch and that you can walk this energetic little every day to keep him happy.  If you know your home is the right environment for a Yorkshire Terrier, you can expect as many as fifteen years of devotion and love.
