Overview
The Maltipoo breed has a short history as it is a hybrid breed and only recently recognized. Bred with a Maltese and a Poodle, the Maltipoo has the best of both worlds from each breed such as the small size of a Maltese with the intelligence and determination of a Poodle. Both breeds are affectionate and loyal to their owner which makes for a perfect hybrid breed.
Like many hybrid breeds, not all Maltipoos have the same appearance, temperament or needs as the next. These certain aspects will depend on the breed of each parent as well as the breed percentage of each parent. Temperament of a Maltipoo
Maltipoos are very energetic and love to play – much like their Maltese ancestors. They enjoy the company of other dogs and pets but would prefer the company of their human overall else. This breed also does fine with children which allows them to be the perfect companion pet for you and your entire family. However, socialization should start early with Maltipoo puppies to allow them to accept new pets and people easily.
Because of their Poodle heritage, the Maltipoo is highly intelligent and easily learns new tricks and commands with proper training. Their high intelligence and energy level requires them to have plenty of play time and enough room to romp and run or daily walks to burn off this excess energy. Due to their size, however, a Maltipoo would be happy in an apartment setting as well.
Maltipoo Grooming and Health
The coat of a Maltipoo is full, silky smooth and wavy which sheds very little making them perfect for those with allergies. Because of the full coat, regular trimming and brushing is required to avoid tangles and mats from forming. Regular grooming appointments and brushing will keep the fur of your Maltipoo flowing and beautiful.
Maltipoos are generally very healthy dogs because of the genetic mixing that allows this breed to avoid common issues such as Luxating Patella.
